Description
The Nigerian police on the 13th of July 2012 arrested house of representatives member Farouk Lawan, chairman of the ad hoc committee of the House of Representatives for receiving bribe from shady oil business magnate Femi Otedola.
The Federal Government filed corruption charges against two members of the House of Representatives, Farouk Lawan and Emenalo Boniface in January of 2013.
The seven-count charge was filed by O.O. Fatunde on behalf of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adoke.
The first count of the charges showed that Messrs. Lawan and Emenalo demanded a $3 million (N450 million) bribe from Mr. Otedola. See here.

Farouk Lawan’s court date of November 27, 2013 had the judge, Mudashiru Oniyangi absent for frivolous reasons, thus postponed till march 12th, 2014.
Whether the case held on march 12th, 2014 is yet to be determined as there was a total public blackout on the events consequent to activists determining that justice be served.
Farouk Lawan remains a paid member of the house.
